about

Composed during the still hours of midnight over the course of a few years, each piece was composed with an experimental attitude, with the common ground that all follow a storyline, which accounts for their cinematic evolution in terms of structure.

The album is an endeavour to make the most out of what an acoustic piano has to offer and hence it is spread across the entire range of the keyboard and it makes good use of all it's pedals, especially the sostenuto pedal.

Recorded at Falmouth University's Academy of Music and Theatre Arts by fellow alumni and composer, Martinas Baranauskas, the album Mayonaka was performed, and later on also mixed and mastered by the composer herself.
Even the four hands duet, “Crossroads”, was performed and recorded solo with both parts live, all thanks to the university's Yamaha Disklavier, a hybrid piano, acoustic but with motors that allow it to play itself guided by MIDI data. The low part was first recorded as MIDI data before it was performed by the Disklavier in a duet with the composer playing the high part.
“Crossroads” was also performed live on the same piano at the “AMATA Showcase 2019”, followed by “Imp” and “Black &White”.
Other pieces from “Mayonaka” were performed live in several concerts throughout the composer's university years, some of which were assessed as course work.

The entire album was performed live as part of the “BA Fashion Graduation Showcase” in 2019, at the invitation of the same university's BA Fashion course leader.

Lively, yet relaxing, the album was described multiple times as a means for meditation in motion.
