Bakegawa is an etude (a study) of the possibilities of the piano's sostenuto pedal. This pedal will sustain a number of notes of your choice, leaving the rest unsustained.

The same musical phrase is performed five times the same way except each time the underlying chord held down by the sostenuto pedal is changed, thus completely altering the harmony.

The five chosen chords are the best sounding variants I found, but the same experiment can be done with any underlying chord or note.

It is a piece more fun to play than to listen to so if you are a pianist, I recommend taking a look at the score.
